He was abrasive, impatient, intolerant — Mountbatten said he was a pain in the neck to the commanders above him — and one general with whom he clashed in eventually took his revenge. For months after his death the Royal Family, statesmen, ambassadors and soldiers united to praise one of the most daring leaders and original military thinkers of the war. He had built up his reputation by his original work organising the Jewish Special Night Squads in Palestine in ; by leading Gideon Force in Ethiopia in , when with a few hundred men he bluffed 12, Italians into surrender, and then escorted the Emperor Haile Selassie into his capital, Addis Ababa.
Called once again by Wavell, to organise guerrilla groups behind the rapidly advancing Japanese forces in Burma, he arrived in India with a well thought-out policy. He alone at that time saw the possibilities of air power linked to units behind the enemy lines, with wireless contact back to their base; contact too with supporting aircraft for bringing in supplies, for flying out the wounded, and for close support attack — and all with the cover of the jungle to help.

This is the third book in the Geri and James Cold Case series. A wonderful example of an edge of your seat mystery, love this couple and the way they investigate the crimes put in front of them. In this instalment, their friend, Lydia is revisited by someone intent on causing mischief with her and her newborn baby, Lee. But, little do they know, past and present are about to collide. Meanwhile Lydia should watch her back as Candice isn't far away! Don't miss this when it is released in August. Oct 26, Susiej rated it it was amazing.
Another exciting story that I couldn't put down. I kept changing my mind as to who I thought had 'done it', not only because of the storyline, but because I didn't want any of the characters to be guilty, they were all so sweet. And then there was Candice; so sad in a way, the consequences of her actions, but she made for such exciting reading!
I must say, I didn't expect that ending; talk about leaving us hanging!!! Brilliant, brilliant story! Aug 01, M rated it it was ok. Aug 17, Seramadis rated it it was amazing. I loved this book, well I love the whole series. Okay, I love all of Netta Newbound's books. They only get better and better and if she keeps on like this she will go down in history as a literary genius. Well as for the book, it was full of suspense and mystery right from the beginning to the end.
There was danger lurking just around the corner for all the characters and what was worse, they didn't even seem to be aware of it. And if they were, they didn't seem to be able to protect themselves, I loved this book, well I love the whole series. And if they were, they didn't seem to be able to protect themselves, because they didn't know who the criminals were. Which makes you, the reader, spend the whole read very much on edge but at the same time, the book is so good you don't want it to end.
If you haven't read this book, or if you haven't read Netta Newbound books yet, I'd recommend you stock up on all her books before you go on holiday and then read them all through one right after the other, because you will never want them to end and at least this way, it's a little bit like they never end haha.
Fortunately she's prolific so hopefully I won't have to wait too long for the next one. Jan 03, Dawn Clifford rated it it was amazing. Hamilton County Commission: Hunter Incarceration 'A Grave Injustice'
This is my honest and unbiased review. Aug 16, Felicity rated it really liked it. I just love the way this author writes, each book being able to be read as a stand alone or a follow on. A very intricate web is weaved around a story of several past murders which were never solved but clues are slowly uncovered through visiting a retirement village.
A truly gripping book and one that I found hard to put down.
